Niseko's Green Season
When the green season takes over in Hokkaido’s famous winter resort area, powder turns and backcountry tours are put aside for hiking. The winter momentum carrying over to spring and summer injects the area with a new vitality.
What many people don’t know is the temperature rarely reaches 30 degrees C and there is no rainy season and little humidity - perfect conditions for hiking and enjoying the great outdoors.
Majestic Mt. Yotei
A must for any hiking enthusiast in the Niseko area is a climb up the majestic Mt. Yotei. Also know as Ezo Fuji, due to it's similarity in appearance to Mt. Fuji, the dormant volcano dominates the scenery wherever you are. It has several trails allowing hikes from different start points and takes around 4-5 hours to the peak for fit people. The views from the peak on a fine day are amazing.
An easier option is to climb Mt. Annupuri, home of the main Niseko ski resorts. As with Yotei, there are several different trails that lead to the top. It is possible to take the Gondola lift half way up the mountain from the base of Niseko Hirafu resort making it a good hike for families. Take a camera and capture the stunning views of Mt. Yotei from the top.
